"Choice of the Heart" in a Micro-Short Film Competition

Hi my friends,

Recently, I was talking to a visual effects artist whom I highly respect about doing another short film to get me back in the film festival circuit. He said he developed a new technique where he can get an AI image and breathe life into it with gentle movements. The goal is to show how much more control there is when an actual VFX artist is creating this effect versus AI automation. I was excited to hear about his incredible technique, but I didn’t want to work with AI images. He said, “Give me a short project of yours and let me show you what we can do.” Together, we created a beautiful 4 ½ minute film, Journey of the Heart.

Then, recently, I heard about the Illuminate Micro-Short Film Competition, where films can’t be longer than 90 seconds. So, I painstakingly reduced the length of the film, created a new voice-over, and put text in a couple of spots where I felt it was needed. So, those graphics were done by me, not Steve. He would have animated and polished them beautifully, but there was no time. I had only half of that day to get the film down to 90 seconds before the deadline. A poignant micro-short film emerged at the end of that day, titled Choice of the Heart! I was still able to use the breathtaking music of Ilka de Gast. I hope you enjoy it! It is one of the 55 films selected out of 670 submissions for the competition.

I am still not a fan of AI, though I realize it has its benefits. However, it should be used with caution. We don't want to replace creativity! Our hearts and souls are expressed in our creativity. This is why, after talking about it, Steve and I are partnering to breathe life into live artists’ images to promote them and their work. I will share more on that soon.

The film celebrates men and women finally working together in the partnership always meant for us to heal and transform our world.
